These notes are courtesy of Ms. Duguay.
o Regionalization discuss – reminded the public that we were equally
going to participate in both Saco and SAD 71 meetings
o They are going to use a two prong approach. This way we will be an
active participant and not just an observer. This way we will have
information to give to the public on both options. Unless information
comes forth and we realize that one option is better for us than another.
o July 20 will be the first meeting of the RSU committee.
o Second meeting is July 23rd
o There is also one on the 24th
o On the 25th there is a workshop in Augusta and the cost is $185 per
participant. We will find the funds for this.
o Mr. Hadley believes that it is being put on by lawyers who are very
knowledgeable about the consolidation process and education law.
o On the 26th there is a meeting with Saco
o Board plans on devising a template so that the same information is
asked of both groups.
o The board will be meeting on July 30th at 7:00 review all this
information.
o Mr. Nadeau suggested that both groups be invited to speak to the town
and tell us about their propositions. Mr. Hadley will look into it
o A suggestion was made that the public as a team get together to create
a set of questions to use for the consolidation meetings. A set of
questions is needed to be non-bias, but they do need to be somewhat general.
A suggestion was made that the board should be involved in this process. This
is to make sure that the same issues are discussed. Using email is the
method that was chosen to start the process.
o Clarification – the consolidation will only include the public schools
– Saco includes the Thornton Middle School and free choice for High School.
Questions about the contract and what would happen if the regional board
decided that they do not want to renew the contract for the Middle School.
Would Saco be able to replace Arundel students with Saco students.
o Discuss on test scores and which system has the better scores and
should we not want to go for the best.
o Again the board reminded people that they plan to have a meeting
asking the public which choice they want.
o Final vote for consolidation will be in January of 2008.
o Only our letters of intention are due in August.
o Kennebunk has been sent all the numbers and are now figuring the
costs. Mike Lafortune from Saco has also been given the numbers.
Sounds like the next meeting will be July 20th. When I have details about
upcoming meetings I will forward them to you.
