Subject: School Consolidation.
First of all, I would like to state my displeasure with you last email to
all. Your questions were one sided (Kennebunk) and only written to have
answers that would sway voters towards a certain answer. I find several
issues with this. I will go through and reply to all your questions in
order.

1) If you can recall, Kennebunk Middle school was on the same campus as the
High school for years in Kennebunk before building a new school. Did you
have the same feelings about your children mixing with High school students
then?
2) Sleep is the responsibility of the parent or guardian of the student,
not the school system.
3) Not an education issue. If you are concerned about gas prices then get
a more fuel efficient car.
4) I do not recall seeing one student being DRAGGED through M. L. Day. You
might want to use better choice of words next time if you want to sound
educated about an issue. Again, you are not stating the issues that
Kennebunk has with Sea Road School and Consolidated school. This is a very
biased way of working a question.
5) As stated in many presentations, MEA's are only one tool of many that
school systems use to evaluate education. Maybe Kennebunk uses a system of
"teaching to the test" months before to get elevated scores? Than again,
maybe not! Neither you nor I can prove this.
6) Education was an issue when I moved to Arundel, (where do you live?) but
so was a small sense of community, lower taxes, and country living. So if
anyone picks a community to live in strictly because of education is their
chioce, not yours.
7) There are many issues that determine the resale value of a home. Again
School system is just one of many items that determine this value.
8) Show me data that suggest this? I think you are grasping at straws
here. Many successful people have come from poor towns and have used their
will and drive to educate themselves to be successful.
9) Your correct here, we will not lose school of choice.

In summation, it is people like your self that cloud up the issues and
confuse people in a process like this. If everyone would *only* stick to
the facts and not only pull data that only supports their agenda then we can
start to have real democracy. You are not the only one that I am talking
about here. I found that the selectmen, also, have done a great injustice
to the citizens of Arundel by already having their opinion in writing made
before the presentation from Saco, Dayton, and OOB was presented. They
also admitted in the last meeting that they had more information then we did
and could make a better choice. This shows me that they are not for the
process, but for themselves. It is their responsibility to represent the
citizen of Arundel and not their opinions. This is why they are elected
officials.

I found your email a total disgrace, demeaning to the citizens of Arundel,
and an insult to our intelligence. Before you send an email like this again
think about how your statements will affect others lives.

I would be more than willing to speak with you in further detail, if you
request.

Thank You,

Steven Richard
